US/Mexico Border Exposure Trip
"This trip will broaden my horizon in terms of the Mexican culture, the hardship they face, and the effect of international laws (such as NAFTA) on the Mexican economy and workforce." - Youth Member Participant
Earlier this year, we witnessed the inauguration of the first Asian American mayors of SF and Oakland. While this is exciting and historic, especially for the Asian American community, we must also underscore that poor and working class immigrants and communities of color continue to be pitted against each other on all social and economic justice issues such as jobs/employment, healthcare access and vital city services.
Building from our deep relationships and solidarity with other immigrant communities locally, at the end of March, CPA will be leading a delegation of 30 youth and adult grassroots members, as well as staff and activists to visit community organizations and activists in the San Diego-Mexico border region organizing around immigration, housing, and environmental justice issues. We hope to challenge mainstream notions of immigration, to deepen our analysis about the root causes of globalization and immigration, as well as to inspire us to continue building with all communities.
Please support us in making this trip possible. Join us on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 for HAPI Hour to send off the delegation on their trip. If you can’t make the HAPI Hour, you can donate online to support this important exposure trip.
